What is ComboVir?
ComboVir is an antiviral tablet set for COVID-19. The box holds 2 bottles: nirmatrelvir 150 mg (20 tablets) and ritonavir 100 mg (10 tablets), which is exactly a 5-day course, made by Bruck Pharma Private Limited. It treats mild to moderate COVID-19 in adults at high risk of becoming severe, started within 5 days of the first symptoms. Take nirmatrelvir 300 mg (2 tablets) together with ritonavir 100 mg (1 tablet), all 3 tablets at the same time, twice a day for 5 days. Swallow whole, with or without food.
Worth knowing while taking
It is not used to prevent COVID-19 before or after contact with a case.
With moderately reduced kidney function (eGFR 30 to under 60): nirmatrelvir 150 mg (1 tablet) with ritonavir 100 mg (1 tablet) twice a day for 5 days.
Not recommended when eGFR is below 30.
A 5-day course uses 20 nirmatrelvir tablets and 10 ritonavir tablets, which is what the box holds.

A severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), such as a swollen face or mouth, or trouble breathing
A severe skin rash or skin reaction
Do not use
- Anyone who has had a severe allergic or skin reaction to nirmatrelvir or ritonavir
- Anyone taking a medicine that must not be combined with it (see Other medicines)
- eGFR below 30 (not recommended)
Ask first
- Have every medicine you take reviewed before you start, because it can interact with other medicines with serious or fatal results
- You have kidney disease or reduced kidney function (the dose must be adjusted)
Watch for
- Liver problems (reported with ritonavir)
- If you have HIV-1 that is undiagnosed or not controlled, it may lead to HIV-1 drug resistance
Side effects seen
- Altered taste
- Diarrhea
Medicines and vaccines used with it
- Must not be combined with medicines such as alfuzosin, ranolazine, amiodarone, flecainide, propafenone and quinidine
- Lovastatin and simvastatin
- Ergot medicines, lurasidone, pimozide and eletriptan
- Strong inducers of drug metabolism such as rifampin, carbamazepine, phenytoin and St John's wort
