What is Kocitaf?

Kocitaf is an HIV antiviral tablet. Each tablet holds three medicines: dolutegravir 50 mg, emtricitabine 200 mg and tenofovir alafenamide 25 mg. It comes in a box of 30 tablets, made by Mylan Laboratories Limited, and treats HIV-1 infection together with other antiretroviral medicines. Use and safety information is based on the dolutegravir package insert (Tivicay package insert, US FDA) and the emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide package insert (Descovy package insert, US FDA).

Stop and get help now

A rash or other signs of an allergic reaction (hypersensitivity to dolutegravir): stop the medicine at once

Do not use

  • Anyone taking dofetilide
  • Anyone who has had an allergic reaction to dolutegravir

Ask first

  • A pregnancy test is advised before you start
  • You take any medicine or supplement on the interaction list (see Other medicines)

Watch for

  • Hepatitis B can flare up severely after the medicine is stopped
  • New or worsening kidney problems
  • Liver toxicity
  • Lactic acidosis (too much lactic acid in the blood)
  • Immune reconstitution syndrome (inflammation as the immune system recovers)

  • Tiredness
  • Headache
  • Nausea

Medicines and vaccines used with it

  • Dofetilide (must not be combined)
  • Metformin
  • Medicines that speed up drug metabolism (metabolic inducers)
  • Antacids, laxatives, iron and calcium supplements: take this medicine 2 hours before or 6 hours after them (iron and calcium can be taken together with it if taken with food)
  • Rifabutin, rifampin, carbamazepine and St John's wort should not be taken with it
